WILDLIFE, BEACHES & DELTA CAPE TOWN TO VIC FALLS VIA MOZAMBIQUE
Venture out into the African landscape crossing South Africa, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia during Dragoman Overland’s incredible 5-week trip of discovery departing Cape Town 19th February 2007.
This action packed itinerary promises a comprehensive insight into more than just the highlights of South Africa. The first week is spent exploring the many wonderful sites of Cape Town and its surroundings, including the Cape of Good Hope and the spectacular Table Mountain, for views over the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. Follow the Garden Route up the stunning coast to Port Elizabeth, sample local produce along the way during on a vineyard tour. Then, travel through the lands of the Free State and KwaZulu Natal, visiting historic Zulu battlefields and heading into Swaziland for white water rafting on the Great Usutu River. Although once afflicted by years of war, Mozambique has a wealth of spectacular countryside, unspoilt beaches, numerous world heritage sites and wonderful people. Here, sleep on palm-fringed beaches, scuba dive or take a traditional Arab dhow and sail to the Bazaruto Archipelago NP of five tropical islands. Next Zimbabwe, via the breathtaking scenery of the mountainous Eastern Highlands, where spectacular archaeological sites including the vast ruins of Great Zimbabwe. A ranch stay here close to the banks of a lagoon offers close encounters with lions and elephants. Onto the massive granite boulders of Matoboo NP, Zimbabwe’s most fascinating safari destination and haven for African wildlife. Camping close to the park, travellers learn bush-craft during safari walks or visit 2000-year-old rock paintings. Cross into Botswana and the northern edges of the Kalahari Desert, stay a couple of nights near the Makgadikgadi Pans to enjoy desert activities including quad biking or experiencing the wonderful lush ecosystem of the Okavango Delta observing hippos, crocodile, elephant and a vast diversity of flora and fauna. Further wildlife is observed on jeep safaris in Chobe NP, the second largest in Botswana, famed for its huge elephant population. Finally, explore the falls and gorges of the Zambezi River, canoe the Upper Zambezi or take a flight to see Victoria Falls in full glory - an incredible end to a wonderful adventure.
The tour costs £885 p/p plus kitty $730 (~£370) including travel aboard Dragoman's customised Mercedes-Benz vehicle, campsites, wildcamps and hotel/hostel accommodation (95% / 15%) all camp meals and the expertise of Dragoman's two person crew.
