Big Blue Planet - Press Release

GET INTO HOT WATER AND

SAVE THE PLANET…

Narrow the field in the search for a warm water dive destination by logging on to BigBluePlanet.com where water temperature data for every square kilometre of the Earth’s oceans is available, displayed by month and depth using intuitive interactive maps and charts. When you’ve found the perfect hot spot, keep it from getting even hotter by using the integrated carbon calculator – designed especially for divers – and offset your CO2 emissions with investment in Climate Care projects!

BigBluePlanet.com developer and avid diver, Mike Fenney recently visited the Maldives; ‘We had a limited window for our recent trip and wanted a comfortable dive experience in November. The site’s water temperature info pointed to the Maldives and further feedback on the site from other divers helped refine our choice of resort.’ Regarding carbon offset, Fenney comments ‘It is crazy for divers to ignore changes in climate that ultimately affect the element and the destinations they enjoy so much. I was able to use our new carbon calculator to easily work out the impact of our Maldives holiday and then make a suitable offset payment with Climate Care.’

David Wellington of Climate Care is also a diver; ‘Seeing the bleaching of reefs caused by sea temperature rises first hand was a major factor in my taking a role at Climate Care. These ecosystems are so sensitive that we must do all we can to protect them and, as divers, we have both an incentive and a responsibility. Most of us have to fly to see these natural wonders but when we do, we must offset our emissions to mitigate our contribution to climate change. It’s great to see the team at Big Blue Planet leading by example.’
