From Cairns in tropical northern Queensland, Sail, swim and snorkel among the vibrant marine life of the Barrier Reef then try white-water rafting on the Daintree River, rainforest hiking or even tandem skydiving at Mission Beach. Airlie Beach, gateway to the Whitsunday Islands, offering some of the most picturesque sailing in the world, is next. Chuck another prawn on the barbie and celebrate Christmas Day on the beautiful beaches of Great Keppel Island. Back on the mainland, enjoy life on the range during a stay on a working cattle station. Take a 4WD tour of Fraser Island, the world’s largest sand island, with mile upon mile of deserted white beaches and inland forests dotted with crystal clear lakes. View sharks and dolphins and swim in Champagne Pools, naturally formed swimming pools, then follow the Gold Coast to Surfers Paradise, playground of the rich and entertainment capital of Queensland. Take a surfing lesson, try one of Surfers’ theme parks or experience the numerous bars and nightclubs keeping this 24-hour party city going! Head for Australia’s most easterly point, Byron Bay, a laid back community of surfers, hippies and travellers, with wholefood cafes, arts and crafts stalls and beautiful beaches. Southward bound to Coffs Harbour for the last night’s camping, before heading to Barrington Tops where night rafting, mountain biking or horse riding are on offer before finally getting back to Sydney in time to see the most spectacular fireworks ever!
The tour costs £676 p/p (was £752 p/p) plus food kitty AU$100 including 7-nights camping and 7-nights hardtop accommodation, all camp meals and all camping equipment (except sleeping bag), all transport, full day Outer Barrier Reef cruise including snorkelling, 2-days on Keppel Island, 2-day 4WD adventure on Fraser Island, full day on a Cattle Station with horseback and motorbike riding plus services of a Let’s Trek Australia tour leader.
