KENYA ON HORSE BACK
Instead of chasing reindeer across the grey skies this Christmas why not gallop away on horseback under the African stars. Equine Adventures offer a 10-day Kenyan safari with selected departures from London throughout December 2006.
On arrival in Nairobi, guests transfer by light aircraft to Lewa airstrip, then it’s just a short drive to the luxurious family-run Borana Lodge, home for the next 7-nights. Set within 13,000 hectares of picturesque Laikipia district, Borana is haven for a wide diversity of wildlife including lion, elephant, giraffe, buffalo and leopard, together with over 300 species of birds and over 50 endemic tree families. The best way to explore the ranch and surrounding area is on horse back and Borana offers flexible rides and a great selection of horses. Try out Polo in nearby Kisimia where thick heather, mature cedar and rosewood forests set a very different scene, even spend a night under canvas for a true African safari feel. After a morning, afternoon or whole day in the saddle, why not venture out on a 4WD night drive in search for nocturnal mammals before heading back to one of the secluded stone and thatch cottages to relax in front of the open fire. Next day, for those who would like time out of the saddle, walking safaris offer a slower pace and time to absorb the unique panoramic views across the Lewa Plains towards Mount Kenya. If pure relaxation is required, then take a plunge into the pool, have a massage or beauty treatment whilst enjoying freshly squeezed juice from the orchard, or even open a bottle of bubbly… it is Christmas after all!
