Peregrine Adventures - Press Release

SPICE UP NEW YEAR
SOUTHERN INDIA & KERALA
LATE AVAILABILITY

Book now for a chilled-out New Year’s exploration of Southern India and Kerala, visiting exotic temples in Chennai, hunting for souvenirs in the colourful Madurai markets, spotting wildlife in Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, taking tea in Munnar, one of the world’s highest tea plantations, and sailing Kerala’s beautiful backwaters on a converted rice barge.  Peregrine Adventures still has late availability on a 14-day tour departing Chennai 13th January 2007.

The pace of life in Southern India is more relaxed than in the north and this sets the tempo for Peregrine Adventures’ journey from Chennai through Tamil Nadu to Kerala.  In Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu State and the fourth largest city in India, join a sightseeing tour visiting Snake Park, Kapaleeshwarar Temple and Marina Beach.  Take the overnight train to Madurai, a city teeming with life and jam-packed with bullock carts, beggars, pilgrims, traders and rickshaws of every description – a photographer’s dream.  Swap city-life for wildlife and Periyar National Park, home to wild Elephant, Leopard, deer and the elusive Tiger.  Take a boat trip on the lake and a guided walk though the beautiful park forest.  Drive into the hills to the former British hill station of Munnar, one of the world’s highest tea plantations at over 1,500 metres.  A combination of cool mountain air, craggy hillsides and relaxing atmosphere make this the perfect place for a tea break.  Leave the hills behind and travel on to the historic port of Kochi (Cochin) the ‘gateway to Kerala’, set on a cluster of peninsulas and islands in the Indian Ocean.  Discover the remains of Fort Cochin and also St. Francis church, the oldest church in India.  At Alappuzha (Allepy), board a houseboat, converted from a Kettavallum, or traditional rice barge, and cruise through Kerala’s unique waterways, a vast network of lagoons, lakes, rivers and canals, watching everyday life unfold.  An overnight stay on board is a particular highlight of the tour.  Spend a final couple of days relaxing on the unspoilt palm-fringed beaches at Varkala before returning to Chennai.

The tour costs £1,165 p/p including arrival transfer, all transportation, hotel accommodation, overnight houseboat stay, some meals, an experienced English-speaking Peregrine leader, local guides, sightseeing and entrance fees.
