FED UP WITH COLD TURKEY?
HORSE-RIDING IN CAPPADOCIA
Christmas may be over but Equine Adventures’ are still serving turkey… Embark on an equestrian journey through Turkey’s ancient Cappadocia, a fantasyland of ‘fairy chimneys’ rock formations, frescoed rock-hewn churches, troglodyte villages and beautiful valleys during an 8-day horse-riding holiday combining an unforgettable mix of exhilarating riding, breathtaking scenery and culture departing 22nd April, 20th May and 17th June 2007 (others too).
The name Cappadocia dates back to Persian times, when the region was known as katpatukya meaning 'Land of Beautiful Horses'. Since that time Cappadocia has seen the rise and fall of many different civilisations, relics of which will be encountered during the ride. Cappadocia is rightly famed for its unique geology, shaped by volcanic activity and the effects of erosion and earthquakes. Layers of ash, lava and basalt form the foundations of this unique landscape of massive plateaux, steep cliffs, spectacular canyons, hidden caves and distinctive ‘fairy chimneys’. Spend the days riding through magnificent red, white and pigeon valleys, meandering within canyons, crossing moon-like plateaux, visiting isolated villages and historical remnants en route and the nights camping in secluded areas with freshly cooked Turkish cuisine – a team effort. Horses are well-schooled, sure-footed Arabs and Barbe-Arabs and riders need to be confident on a breed that’s generally more spirited than most. A support vehicle transports luggage and equipment, while a packhorse is used to carry picnic lunches and small items during the rides. Riders will be accompanied by resident Frenchman, Nicolas Guillo, who has been based in Cappadocia for a number of years and both knows and loves the area.
The tour costs £895 p/p including scheduled flights, transfers, hotel and camping accommodation, most meals, horse and tack plus expert guiding.
