Dragoman Overland was ‘Highly Commended’ in the AITO Responsible Tourism Awards 2006.  The award was given in respect of Dragoman Overland’s continued commitment to RT, especially the hands-on community projects it has been funding.

As early as 1994, long before Responsible Tourism became a buzzword, Dragoman Overland decided it wanted to give something back to local communities.  This led to their ‘responsible tourism’ policy, tourism guidelines, a commitment to local community projects and some really great friendships.  Dragoman Overland are involved in several long-term initiatives including the Kariandusi School Trust in Kenya – thanks to the trust, Dragoman and their passengers, two new schools have now been completed with a third well on its way, the Soft Power school project – supporting teachers and development in Ugandan schools and the Inca Trail and Quechua Project - developing a wide range of projects to benefit local Quechua communities in Peru.
