Good Evening/Morning,
My wife says that I drink red wine to excess, or words to that effect. However, on Tuesday morning I will wander dozzily through Newcastle Airport's incongruously-named Bar des Voyageurs, past the Champ Elysees signposts that some half-wit thought necessary to erect, and for a moment feel like a son of Wesley. For there, at 0615 hours, unless the Holy Father has joined the Krishnas and bears have discovered the convenience of superloos, I'll inevitably witness several sullen bands of brothers sculling pints of ice-cold fizzy lager. Individuals pausing in turn only to lurch toward the smoking area, sucking concentratedly on the business end of an Embassy Red till done. Not long till Burger King opens fellas... My body may not be a temple but compared to these chaps it's at least half-way to being a village hall. Parsimonious black coffee and butter-less toast beckon, before a heady rush of endorphins born of relative clean living sends me tripping off to the gate, high on life... I'll save the sordid tale of late-night kebabs at Kings Cross for another time.
