Walks Worldwide’s new 8-day Toubkal with a Twist holiday is specially designed for those who want to be part of a smaller, intimate group, so numbers are limited to just ten travellers. This new tour visits lesser-frequented areas including the beautiful Ourika Valley, and maximises time spent in the mountains to fully acclimatise for the ascent of Mount Toubkal. Walks Worldwide has chosen an alternative route for its new Toubkal tour, travelling through the breathtaking Ourika Valley to the roadhead at Setti Fadma. Accompanied by an expert leader, Berber team and mule support, the first few days are spent following winding paths, with stunning views at every turn, passing through small villages and ancient stunted woodland, culminating in a challenging climb to Tizi n’Tachedirt (3172 metres). From this vantage point magnificent views extend over the upper Imenane valley, the towering summits of Anremer (3892 metres) and Aksoual (3903 metres), and the switchbacks down to the overnight destination at Tachedirt. Leaving Tachedirt next day, climb Tizi n’Tamatert (2279 metres) then descend into the village of Aremd, the hub of all trekking in this area. A well-made mule track leads up the Mizane River, past the holy shrine of Sidi Chamharouch, on a gentle gradient all the way to the refuge at the foot of Mount Toubkal. Time to relax here, in readiness for an early morning ascent of the mighty Toubkal, North Africa’s highest peak (4167 metres). Ascending Toubkal takes about three to four hours on a well-trodden track, and from the summit, fine views over the Saharan dune seas may be enjoyed. Retrace steps back to the refuge, then it’s a nice gentle return back to Aremd – mission accomplished! Spend a final afternoon souvenir hunting in Marrakech, before flying home.

The tour costs £580 p/p (land only) including all transport, accommodation in hotels, refuge, and gite d’etape, most meals and expert mountain guiding.
