Wildlife Worldwide - Press Release

PHOTOGRAPHING CANADA’S POLAR BEARS
WITH
TOP WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHER DAVID BACK

It’s Wildlife Worldwide’s 15th birthday year and to celebrate, a unique collection of ‘one-off’ themed ‘Anniversary Safaris’ each led by a specialist is on offer, including a 7-day photographic adventure with top wildlife photographer David Back, visiting Churchill - the Polar Bear Capital of the World. Tour departs London Heathrow 15th November 2007.

Churchill is the only human settlement where Polar Bears can be observed in the wild and it lies right in the bears’ migratory path. Wildlife Worldwide’s tour is timed to coincide with the annual migration towards the Cape Churchill area. The bears generally spend the summer along Churchill’s coastline, not hunting, but conserving energy and trying to stay cool. As winter approaches, the bears move towards the Cape, the point at which the sea freezes over first, heading further north for hunting as soon as the ice is thick enough. The itinerary includes two full days on the tundra, searching for Polar Bears in specially designed ‘Tundra Buggies’. In addition to bears, other wildlife sightings may include Arctic Fox, Caribou, Snowy Owls and Ptarmigan. Excursions will be led by world-renowned wildlife photographer, David Back, plus a small team of expert local naturalists and guides. David Back has worked as a specialist guide since 1986 teaching travellers to take better wildlife photographs in Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, Namibia and Zimbabwe and regularly participates in Wildlife Worldwide’s Festival of Wildlife.
Accommodation in Churchill has been reserved for the exclusive use of Wildlife Worldwide guests, and after a day on the tundra, there will be plenty of time to relax before dinner and evening presentations. After dark the focus shifts skyward, as the Northern Lights are spectacular in this area, with the highest intensity of Arctic auroral activity said to occur over this particular region. Pre and post-tour accommodation is provided at the elegant Fort Garry Hotel, a former Grand Trunk Pacific Railway Hotel and one of Winnipeg’s most prestigious landmarks.

The tour costs £3,195 p/p including scheduled flights (Air Canada), transfers, all hotel accommodation, most meals and expertly guided activities.

For every person booking, Wildlife Worldwide will donate between £50 and £100 to David Back’s latest project – Horny@50, a rhino conservation scheme dedicated to raise £100,000 per year over the next three years, for Black, Indian and Sumatran Rhinos.
