WALKING CORSICA'S GR20


Traverse Corsica diagonally, following the natural boundary of high granite mountain barriers and you will have notched up an impressive 100,000ft of ascent and descent on the GR20.  Walks Worldwide put walkers through their paces during 15-days of unencumbered, guided trekking, Departures from London and Manchester 24th June, 29th July, 19th August and 9th September 2007.

Trek through shepherd’s lands, staying in camps, refuges, gites, or shepherds’ cabins, situated in places of exceptional beauty and renowned for stunning views, fine local wines and cheese.  The GR20 trail winds through some 200kms of incredible mountain terrain, over high ridges, down deep chasms and across granite slopes.  This is an exceptional long distance walk, reputed as the best and most challenging in Europe and an incomparable experience for those who love the outdoors.  The first six days of the trail pass through alpine terrain and mountain plateau, with spectacular views of the sea and the coastlines of the island.  The route weaves in and out of oak and pine forests, past shepherd huts and skirts the Corsican rock needles, fine red towers and pinnacles, before arriving in Vizzavona.  The second half of the trail involves scrambling over slabs, boulders, granite stairways sparkling rock pools, waterfalls and to the famous Cirque de la Solitude.  Again, there are six superb days of true mountain walking with the possibility of scaling peaks such as Paglia Orba (2,525m).  Each day a challenging ascent to high mountain passes leads to new valleys and breathtaking views, while in the evenings walkers can enjoy the welcome of the refuges or company of the shepherds at their cabins.  At the end of the trek return to the small coastal town of Calvi to rest weary legs and enjoy street cafés, shops, restaurants and the comfort of a hotel bed!

The trek costs £1,395 p/p, including scheduled flights, transfers, accommodation (hotel, camping, gite, shepherd’s cabin) most meals, advance baggage transfers and the services of an experienced, qualified guide.  GRADE D – strenuous & challenging.
