LAST MINUTE GETAWAY
VIVA MEXICO!
Fed up with grey skies and tired of waiting for spring to arrive in Europe? Take a last minute winter break and immerse yourself in the vibrant colours of Mexico. Peregrine Adventures offers an 11-day exploration of Mexico focusing on lively cities, historical sites, sun-drenched beaches and colourful markets departing Mexico City 19th March 2007.
A walking tour of the historic heart of the lively metropolis of Mexico City is the starting point for this adventure. An exciting mix of cosmopolitan glamour and ancient and colonial history - If it happens in Mexico, it happens in Mexico City. A short distance away lies the ancient Aztec capital, Teotihuacan, at its peak one of the largest cities in the ancient world. A local guide will be on hand to provide a tour of the site including the magnificent ‘Pyramid of the Sun’ and the ‘Pyramid of the Moon’. To the south east of the capital is Puebla, a Spanish-colonial treasure-house filled with elegant 17th and 18th century European architecture and art. Moving on to Oaxaca, with its comfortable spring-like climate, there’s nothing like a spot of retail therapy to lift the spirits! The city is famous for colourful markets, rich cultural traditions and incredible architecture. If the frenzy of finding a bargain becomes too much, chill-out in one of the many laid-back cafés and soak up the atmosphere over a plate of chicken, liberally coated with mole oaxaqueňo (a sauce made from an unlikely combination of chocolate, chillies and spices), all washed down with a glass of mescal – look out for the worm! From Oaxaca visit Monte Alban, the ancient capital of the Zapotecs and one of the first cities in Mesoamerica, before continuing to Puerto Escondido. This funky seaside town is famous for its endless sandy beaches, rolling surf and stunning sunsets. Finally, wine, dine and dance the night away in legendary Acapulco before returning to Mexico City and journey’s end.
The tour costs £850 p/p including English speaking local leader, transfer on arrival, comfortable B&B hotel accommodation, air-con ground transport and entrance fees. Flights not included.
