NEW TOUR
HORSE-BACK RIDING IN MEXICO
Gallop across open grassland, visit local historical sites, canter through beautiful woods, pass cactus plantations and lead your equine companion through waist-high flowers during Equine Adventures’ 9-day horse riding holiday in Mexico. Tours depart London Mondays and Wednesdays throughout May and June. (Other dates available).
On arrival in Mexico City, guests are transferred north to the family-run Rancho la Providencia, situated in the small friendly town of Jilotopec. With personalised service assured, guests enjoy rustic surroundings in traditional Mexican accommodation en famille, in the main farmhouse. Spend the first morning getting to know the horses and discussing individual requirements, then head out over the country lanes and along donkey trails, passing local villages and greeting friendly locals. Alternatively, riders may prefer a lesson in Dressage, show jumping, high school Spanish, general western or English riding. Next day, enjoy a longer, more adventurous ride, over hills, across valleys and through forest, following the river up-stream to a waterfall before returning to the ranch for a well-earned sundowner. After a good nights rest, take a trip to the historic town of Tula, a 1500-year-old Toltec city, and climb to the top of the pyramids to marvel at the stone statues. Head out towards the open country, where shepherds watch their flocks, canter across sandy fields, jumping streams and small stone walls, exploring the Mexican countryside rich in history. Unsaddle the horses and take a bareback swim in a lake or ascend the slopes of a steep volcanic mountain, taking in the wonderful views before returning to base for a meal of Mexican specialities in the cactus garden. Non-riders are also well catered for with day trips to the local market, fishing, tennis or explorations of the beautiful ranch grounds and gardens, including a lake, over 1000 trees with many varieties of colourful birds and butterflies.
The tour costs £1,570 p/p (April to June 2007) including scheduled flights, transfers, accommodation in a traditional Mexican farmhouse, all meals, locally produced drinks, Tula pyramid day trip, horse, tack and expertly guided activities.
