Dragoman Overland - Press Release

LAKE OF STARS 2007
International Malawi Music Festival
ROCKIN’ ‘N’ ROLLIN’ ROUND AFRICA
BOOK EARLY AS THIS TRIP IS GUARANTEED TO SELL LIKE COLD BEERS IN THE SAHARA!!!

A first ever... A road trip with Dragoman Overland from Johannesburg to Lilongwe, based around music - a festival on wheels. Two overland trucks, roll into Malawi’s Lake of Stars festival together; one for the bands and film crew and one for the punters. Rock up at a village, set up the stall and pump out the music. This fantastic adventure starts in Jo'burg 26th Sept and finishes in Lilongwe 12th October 07.

21 days from South Africa’s Jo'burg to Lilongwe in Malawi, via Mozambique and Zambia. Think music, beaches, nightclubs, bars, wildlife, local villages, rhythm and culture. This is the Africa that the tourists miss (actually they wouldn't want to see it - not enough comfort!) during a road trip of over 3000 kms up the Indian Ocean to Malawi, the Warm Heart of Africa. 22 different languages, a thousand different rhythms (give or take one or two), a shedload of nightclubs and bars and of course, the bands. For much of the way, Dragoman will be travelling with the bands, stopping en route each night in small settlements or large cities. Start with a gig in Jo’burg, beach hop up the beautiful Indian Ocean coastline, then cross into Malawi for the annual Lake of Stars festival on the shores of stunning Lake Malawi. Combining Western artists with acts from all over east and Southern Africa, the fourth Lake of Stars festival takes place from 5th-7th October. This 3-day charity event has already featured class acts such as Felix B (Basement Jaxx) and Groove Armada's Andy Cato, plus many others. This year’s exciting line-up includes Gilles Peterson (BBC Radio One / Worldwide), Annie Mac (BBC Radio One), Rob Da Bank (BBC Radio 1/Bestival), along with Joe Driscoll, Stuart Patterson and various local Malawian, South African and Mozambiquean acts. But it doesn’t stop there, after the festival, Dragoman continues into Zambia and South Luangwa National Park for three fabulous days of game viewing – it’s like watching Planet Earth, but without the telly! With four African countries covered, plus music and cultural events en route, this is the best way to travel to the festival. Alternatively, just take your tent and your wellies up the M4 to Glastonbury!!!

And the cost… £1,000 p/p including all land transport, hotel and camp accommodation, all camp meals, ticket to Lake of Stars Festival, entry fees and game drives in South Luangwa National Park; visit to Kawasa Community project and the expertise of Dragoman Overland’s crew.

Flights are not included but are available through Dragoman Overland from ~£600.
